Pupation of the Comma
I've simplified the stages a little.
| 1. The larva hangs head down and starts to swell. | ![]() |
2. After a short time the skin splits across the back of the head, | ![]() |
| 3. and is then thrust down the body. | ![]() |
4. The pupas cremaster breaks free of the larval skin | ![]() |
| 5. and reattaches itself to the silken pad. | ![]() |
6. The still wet and soft pupa then dries out and hardens. | ![]() |
