France is a large European country with several mountain ranges and a Mediterranean coast. As a result a large number of species of butterflies are resident. I have struggled to find much information in the past about large parts of the country, as a result I have a couple of pages dedicated to collating species and site information. You can access the pages by clicking on a part of the country detailed below. There are also links to sites and people which have further information to offer.
There are sites in Bretagne, Normandie, Pays de Loire, Centre Val de Loire, Ile de France, Champagne-Ardenne, Alsace, Franche Compte, Lorraine, Bourgogne, Rhone Alpes, Provence, Auvergne, Languedoc, Aquitaine, Midi Pyrenees. and the Pyrenees.
As always this process should be two way. If you have visited interesting butterfly sites in France then let me know by filling out a form here, and I'll update this site with that new information. It doesn't matter if the region of France doesn't currently have a section, I'll simply add one.
A new book on the butterflies of France is available here http://www.biotope.fr/livrepapillon.htm
For some specific wildlife sites try the Travellers Nature Guide to France.
A good website with many regional links can be found here http://www.planetepassion.com
Thanks for your time, hope you found this area useful.
