Alpine blue - Albulina orbitulus
|
|
Family: Lycaenidae Flight Time: July - August (Alps) Size: 24-28mm Altitude: 1000-2700m |
| In Valais Switzerland I was looking through the species
crowded around a small patch of damp earth when I noticed this one was a
little different. The clear spots are very different and the upperside was
a deep blue. There were also a few at the Col de Santesch in the same
region.
Like a number of species they are found in the far north as well as high up in mountains. The conditions of high altitude in southern latitudes are similar to those at lower altitude further north. The picture left is courtesy of Mark Ogden, taken in the Dolomites in July 2005. |
