Monarch - Danaus plexippus

Underside

Family: Danaidae

Flight Time: October (year round in Canaries)

Size: 75-100mm

Altitude: 0-400m

Upperside

This was taken in the year of the 'big' invasion of D. plexippus. to the UK - 1995. I had heard a number had been seen along the coast about an hours drive away. Unfortunately I was at work, but I decided to head down there after I'd finished, even though it would be getting late. Miraculously this one was flying around bushes next to where my car was parked when I went to get in it. Of course I had my camera to hand, very lucky indeed.
