Small apollo - Parnassius phoebe
![]() |
Family: Papilionidae Flight Time: June - August Size: 60-80mm Altitude: 1800 - 2200m |
| The Small apollo, Parnassius phoebe is quite similar to its close relation the Apollo Parnassius apollo. They fly over the same areas in Valais and care must be taken to tell them apart. The Small sometimes has a patch of red on it forewing which the Apollo has not. Also the antenna are black and white striped, unfortunately not visible above. Also on the trailing edge of the forewing phoebe is lacking a big spot. Compare with pictures of the Apollo for confirmation. | ![]() |
