Tree grayling - Neohipparchia statilinus

Underside.

Family: Satyridae

Flight Time: June - October

Size: 60-68mm

Altitude: 0-1400m

I first saw this species in the Cinque Terre, Northern Italy. Rather than flying away when disturbed they seemed to 'run away', opening their wings occasionally. I've tried to superimpose three images to show this peculiar behaviour.
